SASKIA LAROO BAND PLAYS KOKTEBEL JAZZ FESTIVAL IN UKRAINE Saskia Laroo Band played recently on the Koktebel Jazz Festival in Ukraine. Band featured an all star line up including mr. Ron Wright of the George Clinton’s Parliament/Funkadelic on drums and a virtuoso mc Stewlocks, Andy Ninvalle. The band played as an opening act for the bass legend mr. Stanley Clarke. Billy Cobham, one of the greatest drummers in the world also appeared on the festival with his band.
JEX NOMINATED FOR STATUS AWARD FOR THE BEST JAZZ GUITARIST Jex was recently nominated for the Status award for the best jazz guitarist in Croatia in 2005. This nomination came as a result of Jex’s playing on the great fusion album My Music by the great bass player Goran Delach. NEW MATERIAL, NEW PROJECTS FOR THE BASTARDZ After succesfully organising the 2nd Jazz Festival Losinj, Jex decided to stay a little longer on the island to prepare for the new season with some new material and some new projects for The Bastardz. Jex was also jamming quite often with the great local musicians in cafe Positivo and Katakomba, the famous cafe in Losinj. Greetings to everyone on the beautiful island of Losinj. 2nd JAZZ FESTIVAL LOSINJ Jex organised Jazz Festival on the beautiful island of Losinj, Croatia, for the second time this year. SASKIA LAROO BAND PLAYS TWO GIGS IN CROATIA Saskia Laroo Band, the great dutch jazz dance band played two succesfull gigs in Croatia this summer. This great band played Zadar on the 20th of July and Mali Losinj on the 21st of July. The gig in Mali Losinj was held on the opening night of the 2nd Jazz Festival Losinj. THE BASTARDZ PLAY PULA FILM FESTIVAL The Bastardz are active againa after a couple of months, since Helena Bastić left the band. The Bastardz played great gig at the grand opening of the 53rd Pula Film Festival. The Bastardz were joined by the great singer Danijela Pintarić for this occasion. It is still unclear whether Danijela would join the band, but for fresh news keep reading the news on our website.
JEX PLAYS MONTREUX JAZZ FESTIVAL Jex will play the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival this year with the great SASKIA LAROO BAND. Band will give two performances in Montreux and then they will perform at Lent festival in Maribor, SLovenia. On the 20th of July Saskia Laroo band plays Zadar, Croatia and on 21st of July Mali Losinj, Croatia on the first day of 2. Jazz Festival Losinj. Come and check us out. JEX PLAYS SEVERAL GIGS WITH SASKIA LAROO BAND IN THE NETHERLANDS Jex recently played couple of great shows in The Netherlands with the great SASKIA LAROO BAND. This time the band featured Ron Wright on drums(here on a photo with Leon the bassman and Saskia). Ron Wright is one of the P-FUNK drummers and he played with Funkadelic and George Clinton. 2 fonkee . THE BASTARDZ START RECORDING THE NEW MATERIAL The Bastardz are currently in studio working on their forthcoming 6th album. The material is being recorded in HEADONEAST studios and it features the ALL STARZ line up of THE BASTARDZ. JEX PLAYS BROUMANA JAZZ FESTIVAL IN LEBANON Jex just got back from Lebanon, where he played on Broumana jazz festival with Saskia Laroo Band. On several stages inside the beautiful Grand Hills Village resort in Broumana, visitors of this jazz festival could enjoy in top jazz sounds from internationally acclaimed artists such as Ingram Washington, Leah Kline, John Marshall band and others. . SUMMER JAZZ FESTIVALS IN MALI LOSINJ AND VODICE This year we organised two jazz festivals in Croatia. For the first time we managed to organise Jazz Festival Losinj on the beautiful island of Losinj and for the third time already we organised Seaside Jazz Festival in Vodice, which is becoming the central musical manifestation of the city. It was great, we would like to thank everybody who was there with us in Losinj and Vodice, and, of course, see you next year!!!!!!
THE BASTARDZ END THEIR SUMMER CONCERT SERIES The Bastardz played several very succesfull gigs this summer. We played really great gigs in Gospic, Pula, Opatija, Split, Mali Losinj, Vodice and it was great, we had a lot of fun, great audience and we were very inspired so we played really well and we had a full dancefloor.
JEX PLAYS GIGS IN THE NETHERLANDS AND RECORDS IN LONDON Jex will join dutch singer/songwriter Maedy Tol, again, for a concert in Hilversum on the 25th of June. Sin, the drummer from the award winning The Bastardz Go Jazzy Live cd will be playing drums on this gig. A week later Jex will join the new jazz/world/fusion attraction VOICES OF NATURE in London for some rehearsals and recordings. Voices of Nature will do a little tour in Croatia end of July, and it will feature Pete Lockett on percussions and african singer/percussionist Anna Mudeka. Details follow. So far we know that we will perform on Liburnia Jazz Festival in Opatija on 2nd of July, 16th of July we play in Gospic, 17th of July Split, 18th of July we play in Pula on the film festival and 24th of July we perform in Mali Lošinj. On the 5th of August we will perform on a jazz festival in Drniš and it makes as verz happz that Drniš has a jazz festival. Bravo Hrvoje! FUNKY PARTY IN MAJA PUB IN ZADAR, CROATIA As promised, we really made a funky party in Maja, last friday. We played for about two and a half hours and we played in the true Bastardz style from Metallica to Miles and Marley. This time they perform with the special guest on keyboards, Mr. Srdjan Dedic, an old friend of the band. THE BASTARDZ PLAY LIVE IN “STUDIO 10” SHOW ON HRT, CROATIAN TELEVISION The Bastardz will appear on the popular “Studio 10” on saturday, 16th of January on the HRT. They will play their 1996 megahit “Your Love”. The Bastardz will play the song live and the line-up is almost the same as on their Porin award winning album “The Bastardz Go Jazzy”. THE BASTARDZ ON CROATIAN TV HTV IN DECEMBER The Bastardz will appear in several new music shows in December on Croatian national television HTV. So keep on watching HTV (www.hrt.hr) and checking this website for more news about these new music programmes on the HTV. THE BASTARDZ IN CHINA??? On several asian websites there are some reviews about THE BASTARDZ GO JAZZY LIVE cd, and as we were told by our chinese translator, they are good. JEX ON CHINESE TOUR WITH SASKIA LAROO BAND
In November the great dutch/international Saskia Laroo Band will tour China for the first time, with Jex on guitar. The band will play 8 concerts in Beijing, Changsha, Nanjing and Shanghai. The concerts are organised by the well known chinese promoter WU promotions. So far, the band is having a great success with the chinese audience. We let you know how the tour is going on. GIG IN GERMANY WITH “AUDI BIG BAND” On the 5th of september AUDI BIG BAND, conducted by maestro Ladislav Fidri, performed at the festival in Neckarsulm in Germany. Vocal soloist was Helena Bastic of THE BASTARDZ. Jex, the guitarist of the band joined in for three songs. Apart from the standard jazz repertoire Audi BIg Band and Helena & Jex, performed two of The Bastardz songs, “Muzika Ljubavi” and “You & Me” in a special version arranged for the big band by maestro Ladislav Fidri. It was great, we had a great time in Germany, great band, great co0nductor and a great audience. Thank You to everyone and hope to see you soon. PEACE GIGS IN PAZIN, KARLOVAC At the end of August we performed in Karlovac in a very nice open air bar called the RIVER CAFE. We had a great audience and we played really good and everybody had much fun. After thet on FRiday 27th, we played in Pazin, in a beautiful medieval castle. It was brilliant, a great atmosphere, a great audience and therefore a great gig. Thanx to everyone who came to see the band. We see you again. THE BASTARDZ GO ON WITH SUMMER GIGS On the 4th of August we played on the “Vodichka festa”, city party of the city of Vodice, Croatia, where we played in front of over 30 thousand people. It was great and we played in a special ALL STAR line up featuring Drazen Scholz on drums, Andre Koy on Fender Rhodes piano, Sasa Nestorovic on sax, Goran Delach on bass guitar, Alen Svetopetric and Jex on guitars, and of course, Lady Miss Helena. We shared the stage with the great SASKIA LAROO BAND and with the croatian rock band THE OBALA. We had a great time. See a photo.
2. SEASIDE JAZZ FESTIVAL, VODICE, CROATIA We had to take a little break from our concert activity due to our jazz festival in Vodice. It took a lot of work, preparations and action to organise such a nice event. We had great acts, great performers, great co-workers and of course great audience. JEX AND HELENA WITH THE BIG BAND OF CROATIAN RADIO TELEVISION In April and May The Bastardz played frequently with the HRT BIG BAND, Croatian televison big band, on a series of concert in “LISINSKI” concert hall. Apart from playing standard jazz material,Helna, Jex and the Big Band played several well known The Bastardz hits in a new, big band arrangements written by maestro Ladislav Fidri. Keep swingin’.
In April and May The Bastardz are featured in many music shows on the croatian television, very interesting live appearences including the funk-metal jam featuring Mr. ZELE(Sead Lipovaca), legendary guitar player and leader of the famous band “Divlje Jagode” After the PORIN award, The Bastardz were nominated for 8 STATUS awards croatian national musicianship award and they won two, Gojko Tomljanović for the best keyboard player and Saša Nestorović for the best saxophonist.
THE BASTARDZ received PORIN award in Rijeka, 20th of March, 2004. PORIN is a national music award, something like croatian Grammy. THE BASTARDZ were nominated in two categories and they won the PORIN award for the best URBAN MUSIC ALBUM in 2004 in Croatia, for their great live album called THE BASTARDZ GO JAZZY LIVE Now they are the happy owners of 4 crystal statuetes called PORIN, among other awards which they won. Apart from PORIN, Jex and Helena are busy trying to arrange all the acts, technical arrangements etc... for the 2nd international Seaside Jazz festival due to be held in Vodice, Croatia from 28th till 30 th of July. Apparently there will be another edition of Seaside Jazz festival in the city of Mali Losinj, on the island of Losinj in the northern Adriatic.
